VWRI is organised into five Realms of resilience, each assigned a fixed weight reflecting its relative contribution to overall village water resilience. Together the Realms draw on 34 indicators.
Framework Structure
| Realm | Weight | Indicators | Scope / Key Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hydrological | 0.30 | 8 indicators | Groundwater condition, recharge, source density & availability |
| Infrastructure | 0.20 | 9 indicators | Coverage, storage, reliability & pipeline network condition |
| Water Quality | 0.15 | 4 indicators | Chemical & biological safety of drinking water and seasonal stability |
| Climate | 0.15 | 7 indicators | Rainfall variability, drought exposure, warming trend & emissions |
| Socio-economic | 0.20 | 6 indicators | Household income, livestock dependency, migration & governance |
| Total | 1.00 | 34 indicators | Comprehensive Village-Level Water Resilience Index |
The Five Realms
Hydrological Resilience Weight 0.30 | 8 indicators
Groundwater condition, recharge, source density and availability of water at the village level.
Infrastructure Resilience Weight 0.20 | 9 indicators
Coverage, storage, reliability and physical condition of water-supply infrastructure.
Water Quality Resilience Weight 0.15 | 4 indicators
Chemical and biological safety of drinking water and its stability across seasons.
Climate Resilience Weight 0.15 | 7 indicators
Rainfall variability, drought exposure, warming trend and mitigation of water-related emissions.
Socio-economic Resilience Weight 0.20 | 6 indicators
Household income, dependency on shared water resources, migration and community governance.
Composite Score Calculation
The final composite index combines all five Realms using their respective weights:
(Realm weights sum to 1.00: $0.30 + 0.20 + 0.15 + 0.15 + 0.20 = 1.00$)
